Introduction

Buzzaboo ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our random video chat platform and related services (the "Service").

By using the Service, you consent to the data practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use the Service.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information (Optional)

You may use Buzzaboo without creating an account. If you choose to register, we collect:

  • Email Address: Optional, provided only if you create an account.
  • Display Name: A name you choose to show to other users during video chats.

1.2 Anonymous Identifier

When you first use Buzzaboo, a unique anonymous ID (UUID) is generated and stored locally in your browser. This identifier is used to associate you with sessions and enforce safety rules without requiring personal information.

1.3 Age Information

We ask you to provide your age when you first use the Service. Your age is stored locally in your browser (localStorage) and is used solely for matching you with users in the appropriate age pool (under 18 or 18+). We do not verify age beyond your self-reported input, and your age is not transmitted to or stored on our servers.

1.4 Camera and Video Data

Buzzaboo accesses your device camera and microphone to provide the video chat service. Your video and audio are transmitted in real-time to your chat partner via WebRTC peer-to-peer connections facilitated by LiveKit. We do not record, store, or retain your video or audio on our servers. Video frames are processed locally in your browser for content moderation purposes only (see Section 2).

1.5 Chat Messages

Text messages sent during a video chat session are temporary and exist only for the duration of that session. Chat messages are not stored on our servers after the session ends.

1.6 Device and Connection Information

We automatically collect certain technical information, including:

  • Device Information: Device type, operating system, browser type and version.
  • IP Address: Used for connection routing, approximate geolocation (country level), and abuse prevention.

1.7 Suspension and Violation Data

If you violate our Community Guidelines, records of those violations and any resulting suspensions are stored. For anonymous users, this data is stored locally in your browser (localStorage). For logged-in users, violation history is stored in our database (Firestore) and associated with your account.

2. NSFWJS Local Content Moderation

Buzzaboo uses AI-powered content moderation to help maintain a safe environment. This system works as follows:

  • Entirely Browser-Based: Content moderation runs locally in your browser using NSFWJS, a machine learning library built on TensorFlow.js. The AI model is downloaded to your device and all classification happens on your machine.
  • No Server-Side Analysis: No video frames, images, or visual data from your camera are ever sent to our servers for content analysis. All processing is performed in real-time within your browser.
  • How It Works: The model periodically analyzes frames from your video feed to classify content. If potentially inappropriate content is detected, the system may issue a warning or take action in accordance with our Community Guidelines.
  • Local Only: The classification results remain on your device. Only the outcome of a moderation action (e.g., a violation flag) may be transmitted to our systems for enforcement purposes.

3. Auto-Clips

Buzzaboo includes a feature that may automatically capture short video clips of chat highlights. Here is how it works:

  • When Active: When you are not in Private Mode, our AI may automatically detect and record short clips during your video chat sessions.
  • Local Storage: Clip video data is stored locally in your browser using IndexedDB. Clip metadata (such as timestamps and tags) is stored in Firebase.
  • Public Sharing: Clips may be shared publicly in the Buzzaboo clips feed, where other users can view them.
  • Private Mode: You can enable Private Mode at any time to prevent any automatic recording from occurring. While Private Mode is active, no clips will be captured.
  • Control: You may review, delete, or manage your clips at any time through the clips interface.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide the Service: Connect you with random video chat partners, facilitate real-time communication, and manage sessions.
  • Match Users: Pair you with appropriate chat partners based on age pool and availability.
  • Enforce Safety: Detect and prevent abuse, enforce our Community Guidelines, issue warnings, and suspend users who violate our rules.
  • Improve the Service: Analyze aggregated, anonymized usage patterns to fix bugs, develop new features, and improve performance.
  • Legal Compliance: Comply with applicable laws and respond to valid legal requests.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate Buzzaboo:

  • Firebase (Google): We use Firebase for user authentication, database storage (Firestore), and hosting. Firebase processes account information and clip metadata on our behalf. Firebase is governed by Google's privacy policies and data processing terms.
  • LiveKit: We use LiveKit as our WebRTC infrastructure provider to facilitate real-time video and audio connections between users. LiveKit routes media streams but does not store video or audio content. LiveKit may process connection metadata such as IP addresses and session identifiers.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use advertising networks or third-party analytics services.

6. Data Retention

  • Anonymous User Data: Data stored in your browser (localStorage, IndexedDB) persists until you clear your browser data or we expire it programmatically.
  • Account Information: Retained until you delete your account. Upon account deletion, your data will be removed within 30 days.
  • Chat Messages: Not retained after the session ends.
  • Video/Audio: Not stored on our servers. Real-time streams are not recorded by us.
  • Auto-Clips: Clip video data stored in IndexedDB persists until you delete it or clear your browser data. Clip metadata in Firebase is retained until you delete the clip or your account.
  • Violation Records: Suspension and violation history may be retained for up to 12 months to enforce our Community Guidelines and prevent repeat offenses.
  • Server Logs: IP addresses and connection logs are retained for up to 90 days for security and abuse prevention purposes.

7. Your Privacy Rights

7.1 Access and Correction

If you have an account, you can access and update your information through your account settings. Anonymous users can clear their locally stored data by clearing their browser storage.

7.2 Deletion

You can delete your account at any time. Anonymous users can clear all locally stored data (age, anonymous ID, violation history, clips) by clearing their browser data for our site. You may also contact us to request deletion of any server-side data associated with your account or anonymous ID.

7.3 Data Portability

You have the right to request a copy of your personal data in a structured, machine-readable format.

8. Children's Privacy

Buzzaboo is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Users who indicate they are under 13 are blocked from accessing the Service.

Users who report an age between 13 and 17 are placed in a separate age pool and are only matched with other users in the same age range. We encourage parents and guardians to monitor their children's online activity.

9. Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including:

  • Encryption in Transit: All connections use TLS/SSL encryption. Video and audio streams are encrypted via WebRTC (SRTP/DTLS).
  • Local Processing: Content moderation AI runs entirely in your browser, minimizing the data we handle server-side.
  • Minimal Data Collection: We collect only the information necessary to operate the Service.
  • Access Controls: Server-side data is protected by authentication and access control mechanisms.
  • Firebase Security Rules: Database access is governed by strict security rules that limit data access to authorized operations.

No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. International Data Transfers

Buzzaboo is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers (Firebase, LiveKit) operate.

By using the Service, you consent to the transfer of your information to countries that may have different data protection laws than your country of residence. For EU/EEA users, transfers are governed by Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the revised Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes your acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.
