The Holiday inn Town Lake Austin was booked through hotwire.com. I paid $79 a night. The hotel because it is a Holiday inn gets 3 stars. This is my first post and I have not yet worked out a rating system but I would give the hotel 2 stars. (I live in hotels so I am tough!)
The hotel building is old. I am guessing by the architecture late 70’s early 80’s. The main tower is built in a circle. The rooms start very small at the door and flair out. The walls have a fresh coat of paint and new wall paper in the bathrooms. The shower is tilled to the ceiling. I like the room decor and the beds are new with pillow tops.
The hotel shows its age when you look at the air conditioner, the door frames that were not replaced and the elevators are still looking very old. The t.v. in my room is at least 15 years old.
The hotel is getting a very nice update in the restaurant and bar area. (Lets hope the food is improved as well. I waited 30 minutes for a cold sandwich! A bacon cheeseburger with a coke and $2 tip for $13. You can get better hamburgers at Jack in the Box.) Very nice marble tops and stone work. The bar area is beautiful. The pool is on the 6th floor of the side tower. The pool is nice but could use an update. If an exercise room is important to you this is not the place for you. There are a few pieces of cardio equipment and a few weights but nothing that was made in the last 10 years.
Even though this hotel is listed as downtown Austin Texas it should not be. You can not walk to congress avenue in less than 10 minutes. The neighborhood in this area is also not very nice. I would not go for a walk at night in this area. The hotel does have a shuttle service that will pick you up and take you to the airport witch is nice. A cab from the airport to downtown can run up to $30 one way.
I would say overall I would not choose to stay here again simply because of the location but I would recommend it to people as a nice place to stay if they are not going downtown. Also remember my rate was below market rate.
